As far as we have been able to research, our company was started by a gentleman by the name of Derek with his wife, Marie, in the garage of their home sometime in the mid 1950’s. They started with a government work loan, printing coffee mugs and glasses. In 1963, the company was moved to it’s present location and was called D&M Reproductions. It grew into a well known silk-screen printing operation and continued it’s tradition of printing mugs and glassware along with expanding into posters, plastics and card stock. In 1974 the company was purchased by another husband and wife team who further developed the company into wholesale printing servicing the marketing industry. Then, in 1993 the company was purchased by its current owners, who continued the quality screen-print services while introducing newer technologies. It was at this point in time, the company was renamed DMR Sign Systems, and began to focus on the sign industry. It provided screening services to more than 130 sign shops along the east coast. After several years, however, it became apparent that the screen-printing industry was rapidly becoming a dying art, a process of the past, as computers and digital printers became the way of the future. The owners of DMR Sign Systems had to make some hard decisions.
The first addition was a computerized routing system to make custom shapes, cut out letters, sign components and parts. From there, other machining equipment, tools and computerization were added. DMR continues to update the equipment, modernize the processes, and expand the facility’s size. Even though the staff has grown, the owners, who also happen to be a husband and wife team, are always available for questions, to discuss fabrication and design, and they remain very hands-on with the entire operation. They feel that it is the only way to best serve the customer’s needs and offer new and innovative alternatives for the future.
